Professor Marian Traynor is a Registered Nurse and Professor at Queen's University Belfast, serving as Director of the Intersim Simulation Centre within the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She currently holds the position of Associate Dean of Education for the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences (2019-present) and accepts PhD students.
Her research centers on simulation-based education and interprofessional learning, with pioneering work since the early 2000s establishing the QUB KN Cheung SK Chin InterSim Centre. She revolutionized nursing/midwifery admissions through values-based recruitment systems including MMIs and nurse psychometric tools, and initiated Ireland's first Graduate Entry Masters in Professional Nursing (2019).
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate leadership in digital healthcare readiness, clinical competence assessment, and nursing leadership-patient outcomes relationships, primarily through systematic/scoping reviews addressing critical gaps in simulation education and workforce development.
