Mariam Sbaiti is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Global Health at Imperial College London's School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, where she serves as Director of the intercalated BSc in Global Health program.
Her educational qualifications include:
- Master in Education (First-class honours) from Imperial College London (2018-2019)
- MPH from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (2010-2013)
- MBBS from King's College London (2001-2006)
- BSc in International Health from University College London (2003-2004)
Mariam's research centers on critical pedagogy and epistemic power in global health curricula, with pioneering work on structural inequalities in education. She develops innovative pedagogical approaches including curriculum co-design projects with students and communities, and leads the Community Group Placements (CGP) experiential learning module addressing West London health disparities.
Her scientific recognition includes being shortlisted for the 2020 Student Choice Award for Student Partnership. She also serves as external examiner for the MSc in Climate Change and Planetary Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Mariam currently supervises LISS-DTP-funded PhD researcher Fatma Sharif (2023-present) investigating civil society's role in co-creating global health curricula, and welcomes new PhD candidates in global health education.
Her work integrates community engagement through CGP modules while advancing decolonial approaches to health education across Clinical Sciences, Public Health, Curriculum Pedagogy, Health Policy, and Higher Education domains.
