Mariam P. Berdeja serves as an Assistant Professor of Viticulture in the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University's Davis College. Her career includes prior roles as a lecturer at Cornell University's School of Integrative Plant Science, a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University, and industry experience as a viticulturist/winemaker in Italy and project manager in Bolivia.
Her academic credentials feature:
- Bachelor's in Agricultural Engineering, University of Juan Misael Saracho, Bolivia
- Master's in Vine, Wine and Terroir Management, Higher School of Agriculture, Angers, France

Dr. Berdeja's research integrates physiological, transcriptomic, metabolomic, genomic, and metagenomic methodologies to investigate scion/rootstock interactions with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Her work examines how these relationships influence grapevine characteristics under environmental stressors and viticultural practices, targeting enhanced climate resilience and reduced ecological impact in wine production.
She maintains active membership in the International Society for Horticultural Science, International Society of Root Research, and GIESCO.
