Dr. Olaf Schelezki is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Wine Food & Molecular Biosciences at Lincoln University, New Zealand. With expertise in vine and grape ripening physiology, grape secondary metabolites, and wine alcohol management, his research focuses on vineyard biodiversity, soil health, and evaluating rootstocks in the New Zealand context for enhancing drought resistance in the climate change era.
Dr. Schelezki holds a PhD from the University of Adelaide, Australia, an MSc from Montpellier SupAgro and Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (France and Spain), and a BSc from Hochschule Geisenheim University, Germany. He is fluent in German, French, and Spanish/Castilian, enabling him to read, write, speak, understand, and peer review in these languages.
His research spans viticulture and oenology with emphasis on climate change adaptation, vine physiology, and alcohol management in winemaking. Dr. Schelezki has published extensively on grapevine pruning, rootstock evaluation, vine balance, and techniques for producing lower alcohol wines while maintaining quality.
