Mariagrazia Alabrese

Mariagrazia Alabrese is an Associate Professor of Agricultural, Food and Agri-environmental Law at the Institute of Law, Politics and Development (Dirpolis) of the University of Pisa. She is also a registered lawyer at the Bar of Pisa, Italy.

• Doctorate in Law with honors from the University of Pisa (2002)
• PhD in Italian and Comparative Agricultural Law from the University of Pisa (2007)

Her research focuses on Agricultural and Food Law, particularly on Food Sustainability, Climatic Impacts, Digital Agriculture, and Smart-Agrifood. She explores the Environmental and Social Impacts of Food Systems, addressing challenges like climate change, health issues, and equitable food systems. She is leading the Jean Monnet Module SUSTAIN (2020-2023) on EU Law for Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Agriculture post-European Green Deal.

Her recent publications highlight EU Policy on Agri-food Systems, WTO Agreements, and International Environmental Regulations. She contributes to journals and book series like Legal Issues in Transdisciplinary Environmental Studies (Springer) and the EU Agrarian Law Journal (De Gruyter).

She teaches courses in Human Rights and Agri-food Law at the PhD level and directs educational initiatives such as the Winter School on Food Sustainability and Rights and the Summer School on EU Law on Digital Agriculture. She coordinates the PhD program in Human Rights and Global Politics, integrating agri-food law into its curriculum.
