Maria del Pilar Lopez-Uribe

Maria del Pilar Lopez-Uribe is an Assistant Professor in Economics at Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), a Research Fellow at the Latin American Centre, a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Firoz Lalji African Centre, and Faculty Affiliated at the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics (LSE). She also serves as a researcher at the Centre for Drugs and Crime (CESED) and a Co-investigator at the Centre for Gender, Justice and Security- LSE.

• Education: PhD in Development Economics (LSE), M.Res in Economics (LSE), M.A. in Economics and History (Universidad de los Andes), B.A. in Economics and History (Cum Laude, Universidad de los Andes).

Her research intersects Development Economics, Economic History, and Political Economy, focusing on Land, Conflict, Gender, Climate Change, and Housing. She leads the Women in Environmental Economics for Development (WinEED) network under the Environment for Development (EfD) initiative. Her work highlights institutional weaknesses in Colombia that perpetuate land inequality and explores gender gaps in academia and policy.

Scientific Awards:

She drives initiatives like the #AbajoLosManeles campaign to address gender disparities in academic webinars and co-founded the Econexpertas database to spotlight female experts. Her collaborations span institutions like the Economic and Social History department at LSE and South-South dialogues.
