Maria Yankova holds the position of Research Fellow (Alloys) in Materials Engineering, specializing in advanced materials characterization and computational modeling. Her research focuses on corrosion mechanisms in zirconium alloys, fracture mechanics in ferritic steels, and multiscale materials modeling. She actively contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through research in Energy and Materials Science.
Her work is affiliated with the Materials Performance Centre (MPC), a major research initiative addressing stress corrosion cracking and corrosion phenomena in nuclear materials. Notable contributions include developing phase field fracture models and investigating oxide film formation mechanisms at grain boundaries.
Yankova's research integrates computational methods with experimental analysis, producing impactful findings in Nature Communications and ASME journals. Her current projects explore bridging length scales in material behavior and improving predictive models for material failure under complex conditions.
