Maria Valaste

Maria Valaste serves as Senior University Lecturer at the Centre for Social Data Science (CSDS) within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki, holding the title of Docent in Applied Statistics since December 2017. She additionally supervises the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and maintains active research collaborations across statistical and social science domains.

Valaste's research specializes in Statistics and Probability with emphasis on Microsimulation, Social Data Science, Survey Statistics, and Register Studies. Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate consistent output in survey methodology innovation—exemplified by R tools for open-ended response analysis—and register-based health studies.
