Maria Therese Ahlen

Maria Therese Ahlen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Biology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. She also serves as a Researcher at the Laboratory Medicine and National Treatment Service for Advanced Platelet Immunology at UNN (www.unn.no/nnupi). Her work focuses on immunology research, teaching, and supervision of students in the field of platelet immunology.

Dr. Ahlen's research centers on fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT), with particular expertise in T-cell responses to human platelet antigens, HPA-1a alloimmunization, and the relationship between maternal genetic factors and FNAIT severity. Her work explores the cellular immunobiology of FNAIT, placental biomarkers, and the impact of maternal immune responses on fetal development. She has made significant contributions to understanding how maternal ABO genotypes correlate with severe neonatal outcomes in HPA-1a alloimmunization.
