Dr Maria Stratigou is a Teaching Professor in Performance at the University of Sheffield's School of Languages, Arts and Societies. Her expertise spans French Music, Historically Informed Performance Practices, and the works of Women Composers. She holds a PhD from the Royal Northern College of Music (2021) focused on Louise Farrenc’s Études for piano, with a recording and musicological analysis component. Her research has been supported by scholarships from the NWCDTP and the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation.

Her research emphasizes recovering overlooked female composers, particularly Farrenc, through performance and scholarly analysis. Recently presented at conferences including the Royal Musical Association (2022) and Durham University (2022). Organized the 2020 RNCM conference 'Musical Women in Europe in the Long Nineteenth Century.'
