Dr. Bruno Bower is an Academic Studies Tutor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and an Evening Class Lecturer in Music at Imperial College London. He holds a PhD in Musicology from the Royal College of Music and has taught at institutions including the University of Cambridge, King's College London, and the Royal College of Music. His research explores 19th- and 20th-century music, focusing on programme notes, operetta, social networks of Victorian polymaths, and John Cage's prepared piano. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society of Arts. Bower is also an accomplished performer, composer, and editor, with notable works including critical editions of Peter Gellhorn and Norman O’Neill’s music.

His research challenges conventional music history narratives, particularly regarding the abstraction of instrumental works in the 19th century and class implications in composer canonization. Bower actively performs contemporary music, winning recognition for his interpretation of new works.
