Professor Lannutti's research focuses on the intricate relationship between text and music in medieval Romance literature and its manuscript tradition. She has made significant contributions to the study of comparative metrics, French lyric poetry (including a critical edition of Guiot de Dijon's songs), Dante's works, Romance linguistics, intertextuality, 13th-century Italian literature, Occitan hagiography, Catalan lyric poetry, and Petrarch's Canzoniere. In recent years, she has directed her attention to 14th and early 15th century polyphonic song, which led to her securing an ERC Advanced Grant for the project "European Ars Nova. Multilingual Poetry and Polyphonic Song in the Late Middle Ages" (2019-2024).
Her scholarly output is extensive, with publications spanning numerous national and international journals including "Studi medievali," "Medioevo romanzo," "Giornale storico della letteratura italiana," and "Romance Philology." Her work demonstrates a consistent interdisciplinary approach that bridges philology, linguistics, and musicology, with particular emphasis on manuscript studies and textual transmission across medieval European traditions.
Professor Lannutti has received notable recognition for her research, most prominently through two prestigious European Research Council grants. Her ERC Advanced Grant project represents a significant five-year research initiative examining multilingual poetry and polyphonic song in the late Middle Ages, reflecting her leadership in this specialized field.
She actively contributes to the academic community through her editorial work, directing the series "La tradizione musicale. Studi e testi" (Edizioni del Galluzzo) and serving on the editorial board of the journal "Medioevo romanzo." Additionally, she organizes an annual international training course on medieval musical culture connected to her "Medioevo musicale" project, which involves young researchers from multiple countries including Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, and the USA.
As an educator, Professor Lannutti teaches courses in Romance Philology, Romance Linguistics, Romance Literature of the Middle Ages, and History of poetry for music in the Middle Ages. She participates in doctoral supervision as a member of PhD committees at both the University of Florence and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, mentoring the next generation of scholars in her specialized field.
