Maria Snögren is a Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Skövde, working within the School of Health Sciences. She is a licensed nurse and specialist nurse with a focus on elderly care, holding a master's degree in disability science. As a recently graduated doctoral candidate (defended April 2024), her academic career combines clinical expertise with research and teaching responsibilities at both basic and advanced levels.
Maria's research primarily focuses on oral healthcare for older adults within Swedish municipal healthcare systems. Her doctoral work examined this often overlooked aspect of elderly care through the perspectives of both older adults and healthcare professionals. She has developed particular expertise in digital training modules for healthcare staff, investigating how these interventions impact knowledge and attitudes regarding oral health care for elderly patients.
Her publication record since 2022 demonstrates a consistent focus on elderly care, with particular attention to oral health, community-based nursing, and healthcare for vulnerable populations including hearing-impaired individuals. Her research employs primarily qualitative methodologies, reflecting her interest in understanding healthcare professionals' experiences and challenges in delivering care.
Maria is an active member of the Research Group 'Wellbeing in Long-term Health Problems' at the University of Skövde. She contributes to ongoing projects including 'GPS alarms for enhanced safety and independence among older persons' (2023-2026) and previously completed 'Can digital support be beneficial for elderly people's oral health?' (2019-2024). Her teaching responsibilities include coordinating courses at the bachelor's level in nursing.
