Catharina Gillsjö is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Skövde’s School of Health Sciences, Department of Health Sciences. Her work focuses on enhancing the health and well-being of older adults through innovative care models, digital solutions, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island and the University of Skövde (2012), alongside advanced qualifications in public health and clinical practice.
Her research emphasizes older adults’ experiences with chronic pain, home-based care, and the transition of healthcare from institutional to community settings. Key projects include the Mobile Integrated Care model and the development of digital tools like the SelfSTRENGTH application to combat loneliness and improve quality of life. Catharina also leads initiatives exploring socially assistive robotics for elderly care and educational simulations for nursing students.
Publications span gerontology, healthcare technology, and nursing education, with a focus on qualitative studies of patient experiences, healthcare professional challenges, and intergenerational care dynamics. She collaborates internationally, particularly within the Baltic Sea region, to address aging-related challenges through cross-disciplinary innovation.
