Maria Sappho

Maria Sappho is a Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield's School of Arts and Humanities, specializing in Digital Playgrounds for Music. She leads the Chimere Communities project, addressing Western dominance in AI research through international artistic collaboration.

• MMus and BMus from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Her research bridges artificial intelligence, experimental music, and feminist theory, focusing on multi-species collaboration with AI and mushrooms. Key projects include the Chimere Communities and Digital Playgrounds for Music impact project.

Recent publications include a 2025 Oxford University Press book on collaborative creativity and articles in Psychology of Music and Liminalities. Her 2024 exhibition Ça pourrait être mieux critiques AI's cultural narratives.
