Maria Petrova

Maria Petrova is a ICREA Research Professor and Professor of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). She holds roles as Research Professor at the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE) and Researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Political Economy and Governance (IPEG). She is also a Fellow of the Econometric Society and Research Fellow at CEPR. Her research focuses on political economy and media economics.

• Visiting Associate Research Scholar at Princeton University's Center for the Study of Democratic Politics (2012-2013)

She has held editorial roles including Co-Editor of the Journal of Public Economics (2016-2023) and membership on the Review of Economic Studies Board of Directors (2021-). She received a prestigious ERC Starting Grant for her project on populism and extremism (2019-2024).
