Maria Perdikogianni

Maria Perdikogianni is a Lecturer of Clinical Communication at the University of Nicosia Medical School. She holds undergraduate degrees in Psychology and English Literature from New York University (NYU), and graduate degrees in Applied Educational Psychology and Child Play Therapy from NYU and the Martha K. Selig Educational Institute. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Communication Skills. With over 20 years of experience, she has worked as a therapist in the US and Cyprus, specializing in adults, children, families, and individuals with intellectual challenges. She is an external associate of the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family in Cyprus, and has conducted lectures, parent trainings, and group therapy sessions.

Her research focuses on clinical communication skills, health issues (e.g., smoking, drug abuse), child abuse, child and women trafficking, children’s emotional/social well-being, and psychotherapy. She has contributed to medical education through studies on student perceptions of clinical communication training and curriculum design in psychology and problem-based learning (PBL). Her work also explores themes such as epilepsy pioneers in Cyprus, qualitative research methodologies, and childhood memory phenomena like infantile amnesia.

Maria’s professional narrative encompasses behavioral modification training, organized parent education programs, and interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare and education. Her academic contributions span medical curriculum development, assessment strategies in PBL, and the integration of psychotherapy into medical practice.
