Maria Panezi is Associate Professor at the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law, specializing in the interaction between climate policies and international trade frameworks. She holds a PhD from Osgoode Hall Law School and has been a research fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

Her research analyzes WTO constraints on climate regulations, carbon border adjustments, and trade agreement provisions for Indigenous economic participation. She has advised Canadian governments on gender-positive trade frameworks and Indigenous procurement policies.
Current projects examine jurisdictional approaches to emissions reduction in federal systems and legal pathways for carbon pricing compatibility with trade rules. She teaches International Trade Law, Contracts, and Jurisprudence.
