Maria Lambros

Maria Lambros, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences. Her academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Minnesota (1991), an MS from the University of Cincinnati (1983), and a BS from the National University of Athens, Greece (1981).

Her research focuses on targeted drug delivery systems, particularly in cancer therapy, and includes studies on aerosol and dermatological drug formulations. Key interests also encompass the interaction of proteins with lipid membranes and the use of 3D cell culture models to investigate radiation-induced damage (e.g., oral mucositis).

Her publications span over three decades, emphasizing molecular mechanisms in drug delivery, membrane biology, and radiation biology. Notable work includes the development of liposome-based cancer therapies and the exploration of synergistic effects between traditional Chinese medicine and radioprotective agents. She has also contributed to optimizing nebulizer technologies for antifungal and antiviral aerosols.
