Dennis E. Hallahan, MD, is the Elizabeth H. and James S. McDonnell III Distinguished Professor at Washington University in St. Louis. Holding professorships in Radiation Oncology, Cell Biology, Pathology, Molecular Microbiology, and Biomedical Engineering, he leads groundbreaking research in cancer drug development and radiation therapy optimization.
- Education: BS in Biology (1980), MD (1984) from Rush University, followed by residencies at University of Chicago
- Appointments: Joined Washington University as Head of Radiation Oncology in 2009
His lab has identified critical molecular targets (TIP1, GRP78) and developed radiation-inducible antibody-drug conjugates that activate immune cells and deliver therapeutics specifically to irradiated cancers. Research spans nanoparticle drug delivery, liposomal formulations, and Wnt signaling pathways in tumor biology.
Recent publications focus on radiation-induced immunosuppression, antibody engineering, and hyperthermia technologies. Awards include the Alvin Siteman Cancer Research Award (2013), McDonnell Distinguished Professor title (2010), and FASTRO Fellowship (2006).
Actively mentoring PhD/MSTP students, he serves as Principal Investigator on multiple NCI-funded projects with 24+ years of uninterrupted R01 grants. Lab members include 10 researchers developing patented technologies (50+ national/international patents) for Phase II/III clinical trials.
