Maria Jaensson is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Nursing Science at the Department of Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Örebro University. She holds a PhD from 2013 and has extensive experience as a registered nurse (since 1988) and anesthetist (since 1992). Her roles include teaching anesthesiological nursing, supervising student theses, and leading the Perioperative care and Pedagogical Processes (PEPP) research group.
Her research focuses on patient recovery after surgery, nursing competence, health literacy, and clinical education. Key projects include evaluating postoperative care protocols, assessing health literacy instruments, and exploring learning dynamics in clinical settings. She has contributed to over 80 peer-reviewed articles and co-authored chapters in international textbooks such as Drain's Perianesthesia Nursing.
Jaensson currently supervises three PhD students and has served as an expert reviewer for journals and educational evaluations. Her work emphasizes optimizing patient-centered recovery pathways and advancing educational practices in nursing. She also leads initiatives like the RAPP mobile app project for postoperative monitoring and chairs the Swedish Health Literacy Network.
