Professor Maria Ioannou is Director of the Secure Societies Institute at University of Huddersfield, where she teaches Investigative and Forensic Psychology. Her research examines vulnerability in both perpetration and victimization contexts, including hate crime, human trafficking, and cybercrime.
Ioannou's work develops offender profiling models, analyzes cognitive biases in forensic evidence interpretation, and investigates terrorism. Recent publications explore coercive control in digital relationships, female-perpetrated intimate partner homicide, and violence typologies in strangulation cases.
Her international collaborations produce comparative studies on online dating outcomes and cross-cultural sexting behaviors, applying psychological frameworks to digital interactions across societies.
