Maria Gemma Sempere Campello

Maria Gemma Sempere Campello is a PhD candidate and Collaborating Lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands with over 15 years of clinical experience. She currently serves as a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Hospital Universitari Son Espases and holds leadership positions including Vice-president of SERVEI, the Spanish Interventional Radiology Society.

Her academic qualifications include:

• PhD candidate in Translational Research in Public Health and High-Prevalence Diseases Programme at the University of the Balearic Islands (2020–present)
• Master's Degree in Clinical Research in Medicine, Universidad Miguel Hernández (2018)
• Degree in Medicine, University of Barcelona (2004)
• Medical Specialisation in Diagnostic Radiology (Hospital Universitari Son Dureta, 2005–2009)
• Additional accredited training as University Expert in multiple radiology specialties

Her research focuses on interventional radiology applications in hepatic oncology, particularly using radiomics and AI to predict therapeutic response in liver cancer patients. She has developed clinical-radiological predictive models for TACE treatments and applied high-resolution ultrasound to assess dermal filler patterns, with research fellowships at internationally recognized centers including Universitätsklinikum Mannheim.

Her funded research includes the Multicentre study on rapamycin drug-eluting seeds (VHIR, 2017–2018) and Radiomics applied to hepatocellular carcinoma (HUSE-IdISBa, 2020–2025).

She actively contributes to the SCOPIA research group (IdISBa) focused on Soft Computing, Image Processing and Aggregation, and will teach 'Radiation protection in dentistry' for the Degree in Dentistry program in Academic Year 2025-26.
