Maria Florencia Amigo is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture. She holds a Research Fellow academic rank and is affiliated with the Department of Sociology. Her work bridges anthropology and higher education policy, focusing on childhood studies, migration, and experiential learning.
Education: Completed undergraduate studies at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, followed by a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Sydney (2005). Her research spans Indonesia, Nepal, and multicultural Australia.
Research interests include cross-cultural childhood conceptions, migrant children's educational transitions, higher education's role in employability, and volunteering in development contexts. She leads Macquarie's Professional and Community Engagement (PACE) program, promoting experiential learning.
Key projects include studies on migrant children's education in Australia, interdisciplinary university experiences, and child marriage prevention in Nepal. Her recent publications address global south epistemologies, peer education programs, and volunteer preparation strategies.
Grants and partnerships include collaborations with Australia's Department of Education and international NGOs. She advocates for university-community partnerships to enhance social inclusion and employability through applied research.
