Maria-Dolores Garcia-Ramon

Maria-Dolores Garcia-Ramon is a Full Professor of Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where she held the position since 1969. She has been a visiting professor/research fellow at the Universities of Arizona, Cornell, Buenos Aires, Durham, and the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on rural geography, urban public spaces, gender studies, and the history of geography, with a particular emphasis on women travelers and gendered social/economic activities.

She has coordinated numerous research projects, including recent studies on urban spaces, and is a pioneer in gender studies in Spain. Garcia-Ramon has served as Chair of the Department of Geography at UAB (1977–1978, 1995–1997), Secretary of the International Geographical Union’s Gender and Geography Commission, and Chair of the Doctoral Program in Human Geography. She currently sits on the editorial boards of multiple international journals in geography and social sciences.
