Maria Carmo-Fonseca

Maria Carmo-Fonseca is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, and co-founded the Institute of Molecular Medicine (iMM), where she currently serves as President. She has held visiting professorships at Harvard Medical School (2011-2013) and contributes to scientific communities as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization, Portuguese Academy of Sciences, Portuguese Academy of Medicine, and Academia Europaea.

Her research centers on RNA biology, with over 170 publications and an h-index of 60. She has served as President of the RNA Society (2021-2022) and is a scientific editor for the Journal of Cell Science and RNA. Her work spans biomedical research, leadership in academic institutions, and advisory roles on national and international scientific committees.
