Bruce Alberts

Bruce Alberts is the Chancellor’s Leadership Chair in Biochemistry and Biophysics for Science and Education at the University of California, San Francisco, a position held since 2013. He previously served as President of the National Academy of Sciences (1993-2005), Editor-in-Chief of Science magazine (2008-2013), Co-chair of the InterAcademy Council (2000-2009), and held professorships at UC San Francisco and Princeton University. His educational background includes graduating summa cum laude in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College in 1960.

His primary research focuses on:

• Molecular biology and gene regulation
• Chromosome structure and DNA replication
