Maria Bergström is a Lecturer at Linköping University’s Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She holds a PhD in Medical Science (2023) and MSc in Occupational Therapy (2014) from Linköping University, alongside a Reg Occupational Therapist qualification (2006). Her research focuses on rheumatic diseases, particularly how significant others impact patients’ participation in daily life and sustainable work practices.
Research interests include the interplay between rheumatoid arthritis (RA), social support systems, and workplace adaptation. She co-leads the SWEPPE project (digital tools for chronic pain patients) and participates in the SWEDEwork group, aiming to enhance sustainable work participation. She teaches in the Occupational Therapy Programme, coordinating courses on accessibility and participation.
Her work spans longitudinal studies on RA’s long-term impacts and presentations at global conferences, including ACR/ARHP (USA, Spain) and COTEC-ENOTHE (Czech Republic). Collaborations include researchers like Åsa Larsson Ranada and Mathilda Björk.
