Dr. Maria Begoña Sot Sanz is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at IMDEA Nanociencia, Spain, specializing in protein engineering and nanomedicine. She holds a PhD from the Universidad del País Vasco, supervised by Prof. Arturo Muga, focusing on chaperon allosterism. Her postdoctoral work included collaborations with Prof. Alan Fersht (Cambridge) on protein-protein interactions and Prof. Alfred Wittinghofer (MPI Dortmund) on G-protein regulation. She joined IMDEA in 2012 as a Ramón y Cajal fellow.
Her research integrates protein engineering and nanotechnology for biomedical applications, including immunotherapy tools using molecular chaperones and nanoparticles. Key areas include:
- Design of antigen-presenting cell loading systems for immunotherapy
- Biofunctionalization of nanoparticles for cardiovascular disease diagnostics
- Mechanistic studies of molecular chaperones in amyloid fiber inhibition
Her publications emphasize protein-GAP interactions, lipid membrane binding, and apoptosis regulation. No scientific awards are explicitly noted in the text. She leads the Protein Engineering Group at IMDEA, focusing on translational nanomedicine applications.
