Maria Bannert

Prof. Dr. Maria Bannert holds the Chair of Teaching and Learning with Digital Media at the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, Technical University of Munich. She leads research on self-regulated learning, instructional design, and learning with digital media. Her work spans over 25 years with academic roles at the University of Heidelberg, Koblenz-Landau, Chemnitz, and Würzburg before joining TUM in 2015.

Education:

• PhD in Psychology from University of Koblenz-Landau (1996)
• Habilitation in Instructional Psychology (2004)

Research Focus: Promoting strategic learning with digital tools, metacognition, cognitive load theory, and virtual/augmented reality applications. Key projects include:
- CELLA ( Jacobs Foundation-funded center for AI-driven learning)
- DigiProMIN (BMBF-funded teacher professionalization)
- FLoRA (EU-funded SRL scaffolding)

Publications & Projects: Over 150 peer-reviewed articles and leadership in EU, DFG, and BMBF projects. Current work integrates multimodal data and AI to enhance learning analytics.

Grants & Labs: Director of TUM's digital learning lab, collaborating with industry partners like BioPac. Projects address VR/AR classroom applications and ethics of AI in education.
