Maria Balogh

Maria Balogh is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Language and Cultural Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where she has taught Spanish language, Latin American literature, and creative writing since 2003. Her academic career spans courses from freshman to graduate levels, including topics like magical realism, Hispanic films, and myths and legends.

She holds a Master of Arts in foreign languages and literature with a double major in TESOL from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from UMSL. As a bilingual, bicultural poet and fiction writer, she has published two books: Cumbia Soul (St. Louis, 2015) and a Spanish poetry collection with Ediciones Torremosas (Madrid, 2015).

Her research interests intersect Spanish language teaching, Latin American literature, and creative writing, with a focus on magical realism, folkloric traditions, and multilingual expression. Her recent publications reflect a blend of poetry, fiction, and educational outreach in bilingual and cross-cultural contexts.
