Dr. Maria Anderson is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Student Research & Creative Activity (SRCA) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), where she joined in 2022. Her research focuses on how lifestyle factors influence Alzheimer’s disease onset and progression. Prior to USJ, she held an Assistant Professor position at Farmingdale State College.

Research Interests: Dr. Anderson’s work bridges psychology, neuroscience, and public health. She examines modifiable lifestyle behaviors (e.g., diet, exercise, sleep) and their neuroprotective effects against neurodegenerative diseases. Her studies aim to identify early biomarkers and interventions for cognitive decline.
Affiliations: Member of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Society for Neuroscience.
Teaching: Courses include Introductory Psychology (PSYC 100), Critical Writing in Social Sciences (PSYC 201), and Brain & Behavior (PSYC 300).
Labs/Teams: Oversees SRCA, fostering undergraduate research initiatives across disciplines. Collaborates with neuroscience and public health teams at USJ and regional institutions.
