Dr. Maria Alfredsson is a Senior Lecturer in Theoretical Materials and Programme Lead for Undergraduate Chemistry at the University of Kent's School of Chemistry and Forensic Science. Her research focuses on materials for energy and electronics, particularly battery technologies, theoretical modeling of materials, and computational chemistry. She holds a prestigious Readership in Theoretical Materials and leads the Materials for Energy and Electronics (MEE) research group.
- University Affiliation: University of Kent
- School: School of Chemistry and Forensic Science
- Department: Chemistry
Her work spans experimental and computational studies of battery materials, including potassium-ion batteries, Li-ion battery cathodes, and conversion reaction mechanisms. She employs techniques like operando spectroscopy (PXRD, XAS) and DFT calculations to probe material behavior under electrochemical conditions. Recent studies highlight reversible K-ion intercalation in CrSe₂ cathodes and structural changes in electrode materials under operational conditions.
Dr. Alfredsson collaborates extensively with institutions globally, contributing to environmental geochemistry studies (e.g., mine tailings impacts) and interdisciplinary projects like the eMinerals collaboratory. Her research emphasizes sustainable energy storage solutions and advanced materials characterization.
