Maria Alessandra RAGUSA is a Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Catania. She has held various leadership positions including Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (2009-2012), President of the Master Degree Course in Environmental Protection Sciences (2012), and Deputy Rector for Internationalization (2017-2019).
- Born in Catania on June 18, 1966
- Graduated in Mathematics Magna cum Laude on July 12, 1988
- Assistant Professor of Mathematical Analysis since 1992
- Associate Professor since January 2000
- Full Professor since October 2017
- PhD in Mathematics from Luleå University (Sweden) in 2012
Professor RAGUSA's research focuses on existence, uniqueness and regularity results for solutions of linear and quasilinear partial differential equations of elliptic, parabolic and ultraparabolic types. She has made significant contributions to the study of regularity of local minimizers of variational integrals and the obstacle problem. Her work intersects with nonlinear analysis, mathematical physics, and applied mathematics, with applications in various scientific domains.
With over 130 publications primarily in Q1 journals, Professor RAGUSA has established herself as a leading researcher in mathematical analysis. Her publication record shows consistent high-impact contributions to the field with a focus on theoretical foundations and their applications.
- Una Tantum of Catania University (incentive award for academic and scientific merit)
- Mathematics 2021 Outstanding reviewer Award
Professor RAGUSA has successfully led numerous research projects including multiple GNAMPA-funded initiatives and international collaborations. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Q1 journal 'Journal of Function Spaces' and is on the editorial boards of several prestigious mathematics journals. Her leadership extends to international PhD committees across multiple continents, demonstrating her global academic influence.
She is actively involved in research centers including the Research Center of Nonlinear Problems of Mathematical Physics at RUDN University (Moscow), CIMAT, IMPRonTE, and C.U.T.G.A.N.A. at the University of Catania, as well as Horizon 2020 projects STRITUVAD and In Silico World.
