Maria Ahlholm serves as a Senior University Lecturer in the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki, where she is affiliated with the Teachers' Academy, Helsinki Inequality Initiative (INEQ), and Humanities and Social Sciences Education (HuSoEd). She supervises doctoral students in both the Doctoral Program in Linguistics and the Doctoral Program in School, Education, Society and Culture.
Her educational background includes a docent position in Finnish language and applied linguistics from the University of Jyväskylä, awarded on February 25, 2014. Her research spans Educational Sciences (field code 516) and Linguistics (field code 6121), with particular focus on Finnish language education, Finnish as a second language, second language development, language of religion, and metaphors.
Ahlholm's research output shows consistent productivity with 75 publications spanning from 2004 to 2025, with particularly strong recent activity in 2023-2025.
