Mari Wærner Wesenberg

Mari Wærner Wesenberg serves as a Research Fellow at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages (ILOS) within the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities. Her doctoral research, embedded in the MULTIWRITE project, investigates metalinguistic written feedback practices in Norwegian classrooms where students compose texts in English and Spanish as second/third languages.

Her academic foundation includes:

• Master’s in Teacher Education (Spanish major, English minor) from University of Oslo (2020), featuring a thesis on Norwegian translation of linguistic variation in Jorge Edwards' work
• Bachelor’s in Linguistics (University of Oslo, 2021) and Industrial Design (Mid Sweden University, 2012)

Wesenberg's research centers on second/foreign language acquisition through sociolinguistic and translanguaging lenses, particularly examining how teachers' written feedback navigates students' multilingual repertoires. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with classroom practice, emphasizing Norwegian educational contexts while contributing to broader multilingual writing pedagogy.

Recent publications reveal a cohesive trajectory analyzing feedback typologies, translanguaging strategies, and cross-linguistic comparisons in language education. The MULTIWRITE project anchors her empirical work, with outputs spanning typological frameworks, teacher workshops, and multilingual resource development—consistently prioritizing practical applications for language educators.

Her professional engagement extends to previous roles as a Spanish/English secondary school teacher (2020-2022), academic writing mentor for minority-language students (2019), and editor for the bilingual magazine Ñorsk/Ulrica. Current research is supported through the MULTIWRITE project's institutional framework.

Wesenberg actively collaborates with the English Language and Corpus Linguistics (ELC) and TRAWL (Tracking Written Learner Language) research groups, utilizing corpus-based methodologies to investigate learner language patterns across multilingual contexts.
