Mari Pakkala-Weckström serves as Senior University Lecturer at the Department of Languages within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Helsinki. She holds a docentship in the Faculty commons and serves as Teachers' Academy Supervisor in the Doctoral Program in Linguistics.

Her research focuses on translation studies with particular emphasis on discourse analysis methodologies, translation education, and accessibility. Recent work explores the intersection of contemporary societal issues with linguistic practices, including pandemic communication patterns and the role of artificial intelligence in translation pedagogy. She has developed practical resources for thesis writing in translation studies that are widely used in academic settings.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on practical applications of translation theory, with increasing attention to digital communication environments and educational methodologies. The trajectory shows movement from traditional translation studies toward contemporary digital discourse analysis and educational innovation.
As an active academic supervisor, she guides doctoral candidates through the Teachers' Academy. She has participated in significant research projects including 'Translation Studies and Terminology (TraST)' (2013-2016) and 'Aikakausmedian kansainvälistäminen' (2024) as Co-Principal Investigator.
