Lauri Carlson

Lauri Carlson serves as a Supervisor in the Doctoral Program in Linguistics at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Humanities. With an active research career spanning from 1987 to present, Carlson has led numerous significant research projects in linguistics and translation studies.

Carlson's primary research interests focus on formal semantics of natural language, dialogue modeling, limited language machine translation, multilingual terminology, and semantic web applications. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical applications in natural language processing and computational linguistics, particularly in multilingual contexts.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on terminology management using semantic web technologies and linked open data. Carlson's research shows consistent emphasis on data quality, integration of multilingual resources, and practical applications of linguistic theory in computational settings.

As a Principal Investigator and Project Manager, Carlson has led significant research initiatives including the EU MOLTO project (Multilingual On-Line Translation), Translation Studies and Terminology (TraST), and the Digital Leap project for the Master's Programme in Translation and Interpreting.
