Dr. Margriet van der Heijden is a part-time Professor of Science Communication at Eindhoven University of Technology, specializing in physics. She co-founded the Communication between Physics and Society Summer Schools (COMPASSS) and conducts research on metaphors in science communication and quantum physics education for youth.
- PhD in Subatomic Physics from University of Amsterdam
- MSc in Theoretical Physics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Her research focuses on history of science, particularly women's contributions to quantum physics, and interdisciplinary connections between physics, mathematics, sociology, and philosophy. Recent projects include surveys on science communication practices in the Netherlands and collaborative works on Hendrika van Leeuwen and Tatiana Ehrenfest-Afanassjewa.
Key awards: Cosmos nonfiction prize 2023, multiple award nominations. She serves as columnist at NRC, member of the American Physical Society's Forum on History and Philosophy of Physics, and chairs the Women in the History of Quantum Physics (WiHQP) working group.
