Margrethe Havgar is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Archaeology, Museum of Cultural History, University of Oslo, working on the TexRec project funded by the Norwegian Research Council since June 2022. Her research focuses on virtual reconstruction and interpretation of textile artefacts from the Oseberg ship find.
Education:
- Master in Archaeology, University of Oslo (2019), thesis: "Gripping Creatures on a Sailing Wind Horse".
Havgar's primary research explores Iron Age Scandinavian mentality through Oseberg ship animal art carvings and archaeological dissemination methodologies. She has extensive practical experience as a guide at the Viking Ship Museum (2015-2020) and Museum of Cultural History (2017-2020), plus coordination roles for the Gjellestad Ship Project and Heritage Experience Initiative.
Her publication portfolio reveals dual research strands: computational approaches to archaeological textiles (image processing, clustering algorithms) and innovative public archaeology frameworks involving media partnerships, particularly focused on Viking Age engagement.
