Margreth Lünenborg is a Professor for Media and Communication Studies/Journalism Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, holding the position since 2009. She has previously served as a Professor at the University of Siegen (2008-2009) and held guest professorships at the University of Vienna (2004), University of Siegen (2005), and Freie Universität Berlin (2006/07).
- Education: Studied journalism and spatial planning at the University of Dortmund (1984-1990). Doctorate (1996) on women journalists in Europe, funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation.
Her research focuses on Affect studies, Journalism studies, Gender media studies, and Migration and media. Her work explores the role of affect and emotions in contemporary media societies, particularly in networked publics and social movements. Key projects include leadership in the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies.
Selected publications highlight her expertise in affective publics, media practices, and gender analysis. Articles and edited volumes address topics like pandemic communication, digital activism, and transcultural journalism.

- Invited Visiting Professor at CELSA Sorbonne-Université (2023)
She has directed the International College of Journalism at Freie Universität Berlin (2009-2014), led the Central Institution for the Promotion of Women's and Gender Studies (2009), and served as spokesperson for the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (2014-2019). Additionally, she mentors young scholars at the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Hans Böckler Foundation.
