Prof. Dr. Margret Bauer is a Professor of Automation Technology at the Department of Process Engineering within the Faculty of Technology and Informatics at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Her expertise spans Process Automation, Advanced Instrumentation, Process Safety, Data Analytics, and Control Systems. She holds a PhD from the Centre of Process Systems Engineering (CPSE) in London and has held academic positions at the University of Johannesburg and University of Pretoria. Previously, she worked at ABB Corporate Research Centre, focusing on industrial automation and data analytics. Bauer’s research emphasizes data-driven solutions for industrial processes, with notable contributions to control loop performance monitoring and fault detection. She received the NAMUR Award for her PhD work and a Claude-Leon-Foundation Fellowship. Her teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses on control systems, process safety, and data analytics. Bauer actively promotes gender equality in engineering through workshops and educational initiatives. She supervises student theses on topics like constraint detection tools and pressure relief device assessment. Her work bridges academia and industry, addressing challenges in sustainability, Industry 4.0, and societal-scale control systems.
