Lujo Bauer

Lujo Bauer is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), affiliated with CyLab and the Institute for Software Research. He co-directs the Future Enterprise Security Initiative and coordinates security-related academic programs. Bauer’s research focuses on computer security, privacy, adversarial machine learning, and usable security systems. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (2003) and a B.S. from Yale University (1997).

Research Interests: Bauer’s work bridges theory and practice in security and privacy. He develops tools to improve password security, designs systems to counter adversarial machine learning attacks (e.g., fooling facial recognition algorithms), and studies IoT privacy risks. Recent projects include robust malware detection and privacy in smart homes.
