Margot Irvine

Margot Irvine is an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Languages and Literatures at the University of Guelph, within the College of Arts. She specializes in 19th and early 20th century French literature, with a focus on women writers, literary prizes, and international educational mobility. Dr. Irvine earned her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in French and Women’s Studies. Her research explores networks of French women writers, notably those involved in founding the Femina literary prize in 1904, and she has authored influential works like Pour suivre un époux (2008), recognized with the APFUCC Book Prize.

Her academic leadership includes roles as Acting Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies and co-founder of the journal Nouvelle Revue Synergies Canada. Irvine has secured grants including SSHRC funding for her Femina prize research and has received multiple teaching awards, including the University of Guelph Faculty Association Teaching Award (2014) and College of Arts Teaching Excellence Award (2013).

Her publications span edited volumes on women in the arts and interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on epistolary literature, travel narratives, and feminist literary networks. She has also contributed to policy development for international academic exchange programs like Erasmus-Mundus.
