Margo de Koster

Margo de Koster holds the position of Assistant Professor in Historical Criminology at VU Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Brussels, and Social History at Ghent University. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Law, A-LAB, and Empirical and Normative Studies. Her research focuses on the history of crime, juvenile delinquency, policing, and urban crime in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Education:

• PhD in History (2003) from Vrije Universiteit Brussels, specializing in girl delinquency in the interwar period.
• Post-doctoral research on youth, urban crime, and policing practices.

• Twentieth-century crime and criminal justice systems.
• Historical development of juvenile justice and youth policies.
• Police systems, practices, and their societal impacts.
• Urban crime dynamics and social control mechanisms.
• History of criminological thought and methodologies.
