Dr. Margien Bootsma is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geosciences, Environmental Sciences Department, Utrecht University. With over three decades of academic service, she focuses on interdisciplinary teaching and learning, pathways to sustainability, and innovative educational design. Her work bridges environmental science with pedagogical advancements, emphasizing transformative learning and challenge-based education.

Research Interests include higher education reform for sustainability, interdisciplinary curriculum development, and fostering student engagement through real-world challenges.
