Professor Margaret Maxwell is a Professor at the University of Stirling's CHeCR. She has over 30 years of experience in health services research, including leadership roles in the Scottish Government's Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (Director from 2016-2024, Deputy Director from 2009-2016). Her work focuses on healthcare quality, primary care, mental health wellbeing, suicide prevention, and perinatal mental health. She has led EU-funded projects such as MENTUPP (mental health in SMEs) and PROSPERH (workplace physical/mental health), developing multilingual online resources tested across Europe.
Her research also addresses maternal mental health through large-scale studies (e.g., UK-wide perinatal anxiety cohorts) and collaborations in Southeast Asia. She investigates mental health needs in farming communities and co-producing suicide prevention models for children/young people. Methodological expertise includes realist evaluation and implementation science.
