Professor Helen Cheyne is the Royal College of Midwives (Scotland) Chair in Midwifery at the University of Stirling. She serves as Deputy Director of the Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (CHeCR) funded by the Scottish Government’s Chief Scientist Office, leading maternal and child health research programs.
Her research focuses on improving women's experiences of maternity care, optimizing postnatal care systems, developing frameworks for children's services (Seamless Services), creating antenatal anxiety screening tools, and addressing health inequities through applied research. She coordinates the SMART midwifery collaboration network across Scotland.
Helen leads interdisciplinary teams working on high-impact projects like The PRAM Project (postnatal care redesign tool) and National Maternity Experience Surveys in partnership with Scottish Government. Her work emphasizes translating research into policy and practice improvements for maternal and child wellbeing.
