Margaret Jay Jessee serves as Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She specializes in gender studies, women's literature, American Literary Realism, and Edith Wharton scholarship.

Dr. Jessee holds a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Tennessee and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Arizona. She currently serves as Vice President of the Edith Wharton Society and is editing The Valley of Decision for the Complete Works of Edith Wharton.
