Professor Margaret Faultless is Director of Performance at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Music, Bye-Fellow of Girton College, and Musician in Residence at St John's College. An internationally renowned specialist in historical performance practice, she is particularly celebrated for her interpretations of eighteenth-century repertoire as both violinist and director.
Her research focuses on distributed leadership in eighteenth-century repertoire and performers' relationship with notation. Professor Faultless maintains an exceptional balance between academic leadership and professional performance, bringing scholarly insights directly to musical interpretation through her active performance career.

As co-leader of The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment since 1989, she plays a significant role in their education program for young professionals. Her leadership extends to directing major ensembles including the European Union Baroque Orchestra (where she serves as Director of Studies), Philharmonie Merck, The National Orchestra of Portugal, and the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra.
Professor Faultless maintains strong connections with multiple institutions beyond Cambridge, serving as Head of the Historical Performance Department at the Royal Academy of Music. She led the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra for over twelve years, participating in the landmark ten-year project recording all of J.S. Bach's Cantatas.
